The students of M.Sc Nutrition and Dietetics program (semester II) as a part of their Public Health Nutrition course developed and executed a Nutrition Health Education protocol in the Ambegaon village of Mulshi taluka. The students made five visits to the village to do the situational analysis of the community there, to identity various groups of people (like adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mother, mothers of toddlers, pre and post-menopausal women and geriatric group) and then to talk with them on the nutrition and health related issues encountered by them. Based on the responses obtained from the target groups the students planned various activities like skits, puppet show, games and quiz; and recipe demonstration to address the needs of the people.
This program was conducted on 10th April 2019 as a part of World Health Day celebrations. The program was attended by the village Sarpanch, members of the Gram Panchayat, primary and secondary school teachers, Anganwadi worker and Ashatai, the village folk and a team from SCOPE (Symbiosis Community Outreach Programme and Extension). Prof Kavitha Menon and Dr. Arti Muley from SSBS were the co-ordinators of the program. The activities were very much appreciated by the village people and the students were highly benefitted by this virtual hand-on community experience.
