Symbiosis School of Biological Sciences (SSBS) (formerly School of Biomedical sciences) was established as a new initiative of Symbiosis International University (SIU) in 2011 under the Faculty of Health and Biological Sciences (FOHBS) to address the need for a school devoted to training, research and development in the field of Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Healthcare.
In the past, scientific research has given highly effective technologies for the prevention and control of human diseases. However, with upsurge of chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases; re-emerging diseases like malaria, dengue; and with the advent of newly emerging diseases like HIV, influenza there is an imminent need to invest and add value to application based research in the field of biomedical sciences.
Our goal is to carry out biomedical research of highest calibre through global cooperation and to develop knowledge-rich highly skilled human resource towards the betterment of mankind and its society.

With state-of-the-art research facilities and dedicated faculty, SSBS prepares its students to succeed in the ever growing field of human Health and Biological Sciences and therefore teaching and learning at SSBS is facilitated through hands on training. We believe that there are no short cuts in research and innovation and strictly promote in practicing quality by design. We expect our students to raise the bar and set high expectations for themselves, thereby reinforcing the matriculation, retention, academic success, and graduation of multi-disciplinary students.
SSBS has collaborations with global talents from industry as well as academia. All our efforts are targeted to inculcate a culture rich in research and innovation via team work to honor, serve, and provide excellent resources to our students.
Another key aspect at SSBS, besides basic research, is the "bench to bedside" approach, which aims at implementing basic research through translational science at the community level. We aspire to progress in the field of biomedical sciences by not only working for science but also for our community!
SSBS therefore provides a unique opportunity and a conducive environment for conducting innovative basic and translational research to transform life science graduates of today into biomedical scientists of tomorrow.
